Africa Football : Former Bloemfontein Celtic player arrested

A former Bloemfontein Celtic player is in police custody at Parkweg Police Station, in South Africa, after he was arrested last night on charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

According to a police statement issued by Captain Chaka Marope, it is alleged that on last Monday at about 11pm, the former player, whose identity is known to KickOff.com, was involved in a “vicious argument” with his 30-year-old wife at their home in Wilgehof.

The 34-year-old allegedly set alight a bottle containing an unknown flammable liquid and threw it inside a vehicle while the woman was sitting inside.

“The vehicle caught fire inside and the woman sustained serious burn wounds in the face, hands and legs,” Marope said.

She was rescued by her neighbours who assisted in extinguishing the fire and alerted the police.

The suspect was arrested on the scene and taken to Parkweg Police Station for detention. The woman was admitted to a Medi-Clinic for treatment.

The former player is expected to appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Thursday on charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
