Jo Rowland bagged a bronze in the EA Championships pentathlon in what was a busy weekend for Crawley Athletics Club.

As well as Rowland’s overall third in the Sheffield-based competition, another Crawley athlete, Jasmin Dotzek, fought her way to ninth place, but third in the U23 category.

In the 60metres hurdles, Rowland clocked 9.04 seconds while she reached a height of 1.68m in the high jump, threw the shot put 12.54m, reached 5.63m in the long jump and completed the 800m in 2 minutes 22.9 seconds.

Dotzek finished the hurdles in 9.06 seconds, got 1.65m in the high jump, threw the shot 11.12m, long jumped 5.41m and had a speedy finish of 2:20.79 in the 800m.

In the U20s mens hepathlon, Crawley’s Jonathan Ketley finished fifth.

Ketley completed the 60m in 7.57 seconds, jumped 6.34m in the long jump, threw 10.04m in the shot, pole vaulted 3.17m, clocked 8.86 seconds in the 60m hurdles, cleared 1.77m in the high jump and finished the 1,000m in 2 minutes 49.73 seconds.

Christian Lee ran strongly to finish seventh (15:07) in the U13 boys 3.25km race at the Surrey Cross Country Championships held at Lloyd Park, Croydon. Matt Boxall finished 21st (16:14) in the U15 boys 4.0km.

In the Sussex Cross Country Championships, Crawley athletes Tom Thayre (U13) and Ben Golding (U17) both won bronze medals.
