Africa Oscar Pistorius drags South Africa’s reputation in the mud

According to sabc, Oscar Pistorius’s future remains uncertain as court considers his bail application.

The case is believed to be causing damage to South Africa’s reputation. Managing director of the Reputation Institute of South Africa, Dominik Heil, says a perception has been created by some international and local media that Pistorius is guilty.

He continued to say that the nation should be remembered for everything positive that the country produces, not just the negative sides.

The 26-year-old Paralympic gold medalist is facing a premeditated murder charge for allegedly gunning down his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp a week ago at his home in Pretoria.

Dominik Heil said, “well it’s not fair to pre-judge of what exactly happened, but I suppose the thing that is clear is that someone got killed and there were guns in the house, and it takes a certain society where that is acceptable and where that seems to be the norm where the media pre-judge him in a certain way”.

Oscar has earlier on pleaded guilty and remains to say he though Reeva Steenkamp was an intruder. The ongoing story has made international headlines making his global sponsors such as Nike withdrawing their contracts with the athlete.
