Africa Nigeria: Lesbians banned from football activities

Lesbianism which is same sex (female) relationship has been banned in Nigerian football officially. This was announced by Dilichukwu Onyedinma, chair of the Nigerian Women Football League and a member of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) executive committee after an Annual General Assembly.

Dilichukwukwu Onyedinma has however been quoted by Nigerian media saying players found to be associated with such acts will be dismissed and also banned from representing Nigeria in any tournament and that the governing body was ready to work with other organizations and clubs to stop such acts.

“We will call the club chairmen to control their players, and such players will not be able to play for the national team,” said Onyedinma

“It (lesbianism) is happening but we have to talk to the clubs, and look inside the clubs and these things have to do with clubs.

“There are particular clubs that don’t even want to hear about it and once they heard it the players involved will be sacked.”

Officials such as; Eucharia Uche the former NFF technical assistant, Sir James Peters and the NFF media officer, Ademola Olajire have reportedly boasted of banning lesbians from  the female team.

However, Tatjana Haenni, FIFA’s head of women’s competitions, said at the time that “FIFA was against all forms of discrimination”, and the FIFA might probably be having a talk with Uche who had later denied saying, “We have seen the result of our efforkts and I can tell you that lesbianism is now a thing of the past in the camp of the Super Falcons.”

Same sex has been on the rise in Nigeria lately and it’s mostly displeasing to some people who have made death penalties for the act in the country.
