Africa Cameroon : Goalkeeper Antoine Bell warns of adopting Nigeria’s style

The win of the Nigerian Super Eagles has been an eye opener for most African teams after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Victory.

Some Cameroonian figures also wish their team could imitate the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they sidelined some players and used some local players to make their nation proud.

The Lion’s of Cameroons’ goalkeeper Joseph Antoine Bell gave an idea of what was expected:

“Nigeria is not Cameroon.  We cannot copy Nigeria’s example under the pretext that they included local players in their AFCON team.  Because to do this one would have to be certain that Cameroon have amateur players of the same calibre as Nigeria.  But this is not certain,” MTNfootball quoted Bell.

Looking at the surprise a local player like Sunday Mba of the Enugu rangers did for the Nigerian team leading them to victory during the 2013 AFCON finals against Burkina Faso.

The goalie revealed that he does not expect Cameroon nationals to create questions about the kind of players to be used but focus and select players according to strict criteria of performance.

“The national team is about excellence.  These are the best players who are selected to play and to defend the colours of their country.

“The national team is not about the juxtaposition of talents.  But this is what we have been doing in Cameroon for a long time now.

“The national coach should select the best players who are able to be deployed for a specific plan.”
