It was against the run of play in the 13th minute that striker Adama Niane scored a poacher’s goal from inside the Nigeria penalty box to give the Eaglets the lead. Mali took a corner and when the headed clearance fell kindly to Niane he cracked a ferocious left footer that beat all attempts by Nigerian defenders and goalkeeper to stop it crossing the goal line.
