Basket-ball Senegal: The former captain of the Lionesses Aya Pouye, President of Zone 2

For the first time in the history of the African basketball, West Africa, a woman is at the head of the very popular Zone 2. It is Senegal’s former captain of the Lioness Aya Pouye in the 1980s.
At the end of the Fiba Africa meeting held in Bamako on Saturday, Aya Pouye, member of the Senegalese Basketball Federation, was elected to manage the basketball in this area.

In fact, if Aya Pouye focuses some experience or expertise in the field of basketball, a subject she knows well, she also took the place left vacant by his counterpart, the late Alioune Badara Diagne, the former president of the Senegalese basketball Federation and Zone 2 who died in Egypt in November 2012 following a malaise, while attending a meeting of FIBA – AFRICA Cairo.

A nomination that sparked many emotions in the Senegalese basketball.

This will help the promotion of women in this environment where men have often imposed their diktat.

A recall also that the nomination of Aya Pouye comes at a moment when her relationships are difficult with the actual president of the Senegalese basket federation, Baba Tandian.
The new president of Zone 2, accusing a few weeks ago latter of trying to break his structure “around the former Senegalese female basketball players.”

A structure that now split into two.

Hence certainly also the fact that since her nomination, Aya Pouye who is expected in Dakar on Monday late afternoon received “many messages of congratulations.”

Except of course, the boss of the Senegalese basketball.
