Africa Nigeria : Uzochukwu will miss the Caf Champions League second round

Enugu Rangers midfielder, Ugonna Uzochukwu will miss his side’s Caf Champions League second round, reverse fixture at Clube Recreativo Desportivo (CRD) do Libolo in Angola this weekend.

The encounter holds on Saturday at the Estadio Municipal de Calulo, Angola. The first fixture on April 21 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium ended goalless.

Uzochukwu is sidelined from the crucial encounter due to two yellow cards he picked against Vital’O and CRD do Libolo in Bujumbura and in Enugu respectively.

The Super Eagles defensive midfielder said he had looked forward to contributing his quota towards the side’s ambition to progress in Africa’s elite club competition at the expense of the Angolan side when the news of his suspension was broken to him on Tuesday.

“I’m sad and weak knowing that I won’t be part of the squad to face Clube Recreativo Desportivo do Libolo in Angola this weekend. I’ve looked forward to playing a positive role in the encounter to ensure we pick vital result that will see us progress to the next stage of the competition. I never took the cards into consideration until I was told of it on Tuesday and the fact that I won’t be travelling with the side for the reverse fixture. I picked a yellow card in Bujumbura against Vital’O and CRD do Libolo in the first leg in Enugu. I felt bad over the turn of event but I’m confident it’s for good,” said the player of Coal City side to supersport.com.

Uzochukwu is however positive that his side will beat the Angolan side at their backyard.

“The game is wide open and if officiating would be even as it was in the first leg in Enugu I’m confident we’ll come out unscathed. Nigerians should be rest assured that Rangers won’t let them down. The Angolan side are beatable and we’re going there to give them the fight of their lives,” he said.

The Flying Antelopes will depart the nation’s shores on Thursday to Angola for the make-or-break tie at CRD do Libolo.
