Africa Nigeria defender Danny Shittu wins Millwall Player of the Season

Nigeria defender Danny Shittu has been named Millwall’s Player of the Season after receiving 44% of the vote.

Shittu has won over the Millwall faithful in his first full season at the club with his commitment and leadership qualities on the field, whilst his warmth and friendly persona off the field has made him an instant hit with fans of all ages.

He was the clear favourite to win the award and did so by a landslide, 44% of total votes ahead of David Forde (23%) and James Henry (12%), who came second and third, respectively.

Speaking to the club’s official site, the Nigeria defender explained that it was a joy to hear how fans regard him despite playing so few games for them in reality.

“When you hear the way people talk about you, despite only playing a few games for the club, means so much,” the defender beamed.

“To know that you can work hard to achieve what you want at a club, and to have people who pay to watch you and appreciate what you do in support, is so important for a footballer. I am truly honoured to win this award.”

The English Championship outfit reached the semi-final of the FA Cup this season with Shittu at the heart of their great run.

It has proved to be a memorable campaign for Danny Shittu, who was the runaway winner to scoop the Junior Lions Player of the Year award too.
