A beautiful free kick by Andrea Pirlo (who celebrated his 100th cap in selection) and a goal from Mario Balotelli late in the game helped the Azzurri to stay in contact with Brazil in Group A.

The Manchester United striker, Chicharito Hernandez reduced the score on a penalty kick for Mexico.
