Africa Zambia coach Hervé Renard praises Michael Essien: “The most experienced player I have ever coached”

renardZambia coach Renard Herve never cease to comment on the Black Stars splendid performance against his chipolopolo side. The latest comment is on Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien. The midfielder who was introduced in the second half of the game showed class in the midfield as he stabilised the midfield at the time the Zambians seemed to operate through the midfield.
The game against Zambia was Essien’s first appearance after a two-year break from international football. The Zambia coach admitted that his team would have been better if Essien had not been introduced into the game. Coach Renard finally saluted the Chelsea midfielder and called him “Sir”.
I don’t have a lot of experience but I never coach or trained with a fantastic player like him [Essien]. During my time in Ghana I realized why some players are different. Essien was an amazing player and a great man. I think we have to call him ‘sir’. It would have been better for us if he was in London [with laughs].”
Even though Essien is not part of the 17 man squad who will face Japan on a friendly match, he will be key to Ghana going into the playoff stage of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
