Africa Nigeria-Ethiopia: A match that almost turned to tragedy

images (4)Nigeria faced Ethiopia Sunday in the playoffs of the 2014 World Cup, a match that ended with a 2-1 win of the Super Eagles. Disaster was avoided on Sunday when two suspected Somali terrorists who intended to disrupt Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against the Walya Antelopes ended up blowing themselves up before they could carry out their heinous plans.

The bomb went off in an apartment in the upscale Bole district, about five kilometres away from the Stadium where the match was played.

Were found at the scene of the blast several weapons such as grenades and football jersey.

According to the Ethiopian authorities the unfortunate duo had planned to disguise themselves as Waliya fans, to gain entrance into the Stadium or any other place where there was a large convergence of fans.
Officials also revealed that three suspects have been taken into custody, although no group has come out to take responsibility for the failed attack, which is believed to have been foiled by the heavy Police presence which may have agitated the terrorists into blowing themselves up.
