Football Transfers: To keep Suarez, Liverpool set a dizzying release clause

luis-suarez_reuter_2389028bThe Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez, has recently extended his contract with the Reds until 2018. If the English club does not qualify for the next Champions League, Luis Suarez has a clause allowing him to leave Liverpool.

While penning down this new contract with Liverpool, Luis Suarez has not only acquired a significant salary, he also saw his release clause be greatly revised upwards.

Indeed, if a club wanted to recruit Luis Suarez without the approval of the Reds, they must pay the astronomical sum of 120 million pounds, or about 145 million Euros. Enough to keep away many suitors.

Note that Luis Suarez was determined to leave Liverpool, and by all means. BBC reported in August that the Uruguayan striker was considering entering the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), if the Reds are not willing to let him go. This does not seem to move at the moment.

After rejecting the 40 million pound offer by Arsenal (higher than the release clause amount of Suarez), leaders of the Mersey club remain camped on their position : “Despite what people think, we are not intend to sell Luis , we never said we wanted to sell him out, “ said President Tom Werner.

“I ‘m sure he will stay. This is the goal we aim to achieve.”
