athletics New York Half-Marathon: Geoffrey Mutai dominates Mo Farah, record for Sally Kipyego

110313-running-Geoffrey-Mutai-pi-mp_20131103130638399_660_320Geoffrey Mutai won the half- marathon in New York, ran Sunday. The Kenyan, winner of the marathon Yorker last November, won ahead of Mo Farah in 1 h 00 ‘ 50”.

The expected duel between the two men has not really occurred. In the forefront with his main rival, Mo Farah, fell sharply, after 8 km. But the British could get back in the race to steal the second place from the second Kenyan on the podium, Stephen Sambu. Therefore second in 1h 01 ‘ 07”, the Olympic champion collapsed after the finish line and left the half marathon in a wheelchair. Mutai and Farah will meet again next month at the London Marathon.

Sally Kipyego improved the time of the half-marathon in the ladies. The Kenyan crossed first the finish line after a race in 1h 08’30 ”. The podium was completed by the Ethiopian Buzuneh Deba and American Molly Huddle 2nd and 3rd respectively within 30 seconds.
