Tennis WIMBLEDON : SLOANE STEPHENS ALREADY OUT!

It’s already over for Sloane Stephens on the grass of Wimbledon. The American, seeded No. 18 of the Grand Slam in London was knocked out in the first round of the competition. Opposed to Maria Kirlenko, Stephens was asked to pack up her racket after losing in straight sets, 6/2, 7/6.

On court No. 18 of the All England Club, where takes place the first face to face on the WTA circuit between the two players, Sloane Stephens takes very quickly foot in the grass. She concedes her third serve [2-4], before getting broken again and lose the set in 34 minutes. In the second set she quickly gets a break [2-1], but the Russian (87th worldwide), returns to her height in the eighth game: 4 games everywhere. The stick remains balanced and they must decide the tiebreak. Stephens lost the decisive game 6 to 8 points and leaves the table in women’s singles at Wimbledon after 1 h 38 of exchanges: 6/2, 7/6 [8-6].

In the next round, Maria Kirlenko will face Chinese Shuai Peng (60th in the WTA) winner of the British Johanna Konta 6/4, 3/6, 6/4.

This first round of this year’s Wimbledon has been also fatal to Samantha Stosur. The Australian, seeded No. 17, was eliminated by the Belgian Yanina Wickmayer (World 54) in two smaller sets: 6/3, 6/4.
