Africa French League 1 : Defender John Mensah unaware of Rennes deal

Ex-Ghana captain John Mensah says he has not negotiated a dealto sign with French side Rennes.

This comes after several media outfits in France reported that the former Sunderland defender could be on the verge of rejoining Rennes after training with the club.

The Ghana international spent two seasons on loan at the Stadium of Light, but recently he has been dogged by knee problems.

Mensah spent two years with Rennes before signing for Lyon in 2008.

Mensah trained with West Ham earlier this season but a deal to return to the Premier League failed to materialise.

Reports in Ghana have linked the 29-year-old with Everton and QPR, but the player says he has enjoyed his time with his former club.

“I am training with Rennes, they have been great to me,” he said.

“Rennes have made me welcome and allowed me to use their facilities.

“I love the club, there are great guys here but nothing has been said to me.”

Mensah was reported to the on the target list for Rennes as a replacement for John Boye who is heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.
