Africa Afcon 2013 : Mahama cautions Black Stars against complacency

Ghana President John Mahama believes the Black Stars can honour the nation with a Cup of Nations glory but reminds the team that they must do away with complacency.

The Ghanaian leader hosted players, members of the technical team and management of the national team to the Presidency in Accra on Thursday ahead of their trip to Abu Dhabi for their pre-Nations Cup camp.

President Mahama tasked the team to be at their best for every game, treat every match as serious and ensure that they go all out to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

“We shouldn’t take anybody for granted, any nation we meet we must play at our best in order that we are able to continue (in the competition),” he said.

“I am sure that with God on our side, we will win the cup and bring it back.”

Ghana, is aiming for a fifth title success after their last victory came some 31-years.

“And I wish to assure the (Black) Stars that if that happens, this nation will show its appreciation to them in a special way”.

“And so I want you (Black Stars) to feel encouraged, go do your best, die for your nation and I am sure that God will reward us with the cup.”

The Black Stars will leave Accra on Friday for their camp in the UAE capital.

Ghana will open their group campaign in the finals in South Africa against DR Congo before meeting Mali and Niger.
