AFCON CAMEROON 2021 Afcon 2013: Togo president summons Adebayor

Togo president Faure Gnassingbe has convened a meeting with the national team captain Emmanuel Adebayor following his refusal to join the outfit for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in the wake of a match bonus row with the football federation.

The Sports Ministry said on Thursday the Tottenham striker was being expected at any moment in the country’s capital Lome to hold talks with the Head of State, which observers hope could change the player’s position.

Togo will face Niger on Saturday in Niamey as part of their preparations for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations set for kick off on January 19.

Defensive midfielder Alaixys Romao of French side Lorient returned to the fold on Wednesday after pulling out earlier in solidarity with Adebayor.

The team’s first choice goalkeeper Kossi Agassa has not responded to coach Didier Six’s invitation, saying he will wait until Adebayor’s issue is solved before deciding.

Togo will open their campaign against fellow West Africans Ivory Coast in Group D based in Rustenburg in South Africa.

It’s a friendly invitation from the president not a summon and this should be extended to all other players.
