AFCON CAMEROON 2021 Afcon 2013 : Spurs’ dissatisfaction at Emmanuel Adebayor

The Togolese footballer initially refused to play the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations due to the team’s inadequate security and unpaid bonuses. Now he seems to have patched things up with his country Togo and would be travelling to South Africa for the tournament after Saturday’s game with QPR.

During his leave from the Spurs’ camp senior striker Jermain Defoe will take over.

But the 28-year-old told africatopsports.com on the Togo Football Federation’s website: “That is what he said to the press, but not what he said to me”.

“There is a difference between what you say to the press and what you say in private.”

Adebayor has a fear of a similarity of what happen in Angola in 2010. Three people, including the Togolese assistant coach, were killed when terrorists ambushed the team’s coach. Adebayor hid under a seat and

“In 2010 I wanted to go for the Afcon to be a winner for my country and you all saw what happened. I pray and hope this time things would be different for me,my team mate and the whole of Togo”.

Should Togo be eliminated from their group, Adebayor will be free to fly home survived the attack.
