Africa Cricket/South Africa: West Indies women topple

Five match limited over cricket series against South Africa yesterday life by the West Indies women, with a forceful number of eight-wicket which led to their victory at the Windsor Park in St. Lucia.

The South Africans saw that the going is tough by batting first and was bowled out for 120 off 47.1 overs. The mainstay of the innings scoring a patient 20 was Mignon de Preez.

West Indies were Shaquana Quintyne and eventual player of the match Stephanie Taylor who both grabbed four wickets apiece. Quintyne grabbed 4/14 and Taylor took 4/22.

Easy target were set by West Indies to reach their goal in the 30th over, as Taylor dominated the South African attack scoring 71. She was well supported by Kycia Knight who scored 24. Taylor was particularly destructive against the quicker bowlers as the spinners were able to get assistance from the pitch.

West Indies now has the chance to get back in the series as they have cut the visitors lead to 2-1with the win.

Taylor and Knight got the West Indies off to a wonderful start posting 75 runs for the first wicket. After this the game was as good as over. Taylor continued to attack at the fall of Knight’s wicket and pushed the score to 111 before she left for 71. Shermaine Campbell and Deandra Dottin then took the team to victory with 20 overs to spare.
