African giants TP Mazembe has completed the signing of Cranes winger Mike Mutyaba.

The DR Congo club, winners of the 2010 Caf Champions League, tied down Mutyaba to a five-year deal. He joins Zambia playmaker Rainford Kalaba and Cranes midfielder Patrick Ochan. This will be Mutyaba’s second big move. At the end of 2011, he left Bunamwaya SC, a club he helped win the 2009/2010 Super League title, for Sudanese giants El-Merreikh for a reported $40,000. But a niggling injury didn’t allow Mutyaba to enjoy a successful time in Khartoum.

He will thus be hoping that he can pay back the faith that TP Mazembe has shown in signing him. The DR Congo side paid El-Merreikh $50,000 for his services. Mutyaba missed out on Cranes 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the Cecafa Tusker Cup because of injury. He hopes this move can raise his chances of a Cranes recall.

“I want to make it back to the national team. Injury set me back a lot last year. I hope I can be a big player for both TP Mazembe and The Cranes this year,” said the 22-year-old player.

Meanwhile, Cranes left fullback Godfrey Walusimbi is also in DR Congo following the completion of his move to CS Don Bosco football club. The Lubumbashi-based club will represent DR Congo in the Caf Confederation cup this year. Walusimbi’s new club is run by the son of Moise Katumbi, the President of TP Mazembe.
