Euro 2020 Volleyball : Peru president welcomes national youth squad

The members of the U18 team to the Peruvian capital were warmly welcomed by the Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso, along with Nadine Heredia, the first lady, Francisco Boza, president of the Peruvian Institute of Sports, Patricia Salas, the education minister, Cenaida Uribe, congresswoman and Olympic medallist in volleyball, Luis Linares, president of the Peruvian Volleyball Federation (FPV), and Rosa García, member of the Peruvian Volleyball Federation’s board and also an Olympic medallist in volleyball.

The squad won the gold medal after defeating Brazil at the XVIII South American Youth Championship, and qualified for the 2013 Youth World Championship which will be held in Thailand July 5 to 14.

The Peruvian youth girls’ team, gold medal winners at the 2012 South American Youth Girls’ Championship, was the centres of attention at a ceremony to honour them in the government palace in Lima.

Each of the girls got a new iPad, while Captain Angela Leyva accepted on behalf of her team-mates a check for five thousand Nuevos Soles (the local currency).
