AFCON CAMEROON 2021 Afcon 2013 : “Burkina hope to defeat the Black Stars at Mbombela” –Paul Put

The Belgian trainer claims his teams are used to the ‘poor’ Mbombela pitch ahead of their semi-final clash with Ghana on Wednesday.

Burkina Faso coach Paul Put is convinced the Mbombela pitch in Nelspruit will favour the Stallions when they take on the Black Stars in the 2013 Afcon semi-final clash on Wednesday.

Concerns have been raised by a number of teams competing in this year’s continental show piece over the uneven field which makes it difficult for teams to play their normal passing games.

The Stallions have played all their four Afcon games including the quarter-final clash with Togo on that turf which they won by a lone goal after the game went into extra time.

The 56-year-old believes his players have adapted their game to suit the surface of Mbombela Stadium giving them a slight advantage over Ghana.

“It’s always an advantage [having played on the pitch] but Ghana is also a technical team and a physical team as well,” Put told the press.

“Even though the pitch is very bad it’s our home stadium and we have nothing to lose as no one expected us to play in the semi-finals.”

“But it’s still an advantage for us as we are playing in a ‘home’ game,” the former Gambian national team coach said.
