AFCON CAMEROON 2021 2019 AFCON: DR Congo submit hosting bid

DR Congo sports minister Baudouin Banza Mukalay Nsungu told RFI that they had put into consideration the challenge of hosting the tournament over a vast country in what is Africa’s second largest nation.

Nsungu said the Congo River estuary port town of Matadi and central DR Congo city of Kisangani have also been identified as potential third and fourth host cities for the tournament.

“I know there is a problem of infrastructure, but we’ll get started. It is an ambition of the government to stage the competition,” Nsungu said.

The two-time champions, winners in 1968 and 1974, have never staged the Africa Cup.

DR Congo becomes the third country to express interest in staging the Africa Cup over the last month.

Uganda is planning a joint bid with Kenya, while Zambia too has expressed interest in hosting the 32nd edition of the event.

However, Morocco and Libya are expected to host the 2015 and 2017 editions respectively since Libya couldn’t host the 2013 edition it’s given the opportunity once again.

Kinshasa and Lubumbashi will be the DR Congo bid’s prime match venues as said by the sports minister.
