Africa Nigeria : Emenike out for 8 weeks with an injury

The joint-top goal scorer of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Emmanuel Emenike will miss next month March’s World Cup qualifiers against Kenya as his hamstring will keep him out for 2 month (8 weeks).

According to trends, Emenike is yet to recover from the injury he copped in the semi-finals game against Mali at the Nations Cup in South Africa, and he would now miss the Super Eagles World Cup qualifiers against Kenya next month in Calabar.

The Spartak Moscow of Russia attacker came into reckoning for Nigeria at the Nations Cup tournament, breaking the mould and emerging the highest goal scorer with four goals in five matches for the national team.

Emenike revealed that he was told by the national team doctors, that it was a minor injury, which shouldn’t keep him out for more than two weeks, but after a thorough examination by his club, it was worse than first feared.

“I expected the medics with the national team to tell me how long I would be out of action, they gave me wrong information that I will be out for two weeks, but that was a lie and I am not happy with it. On getting to my team’s camp here in Spain, they told me I will be out for eight weeks after examination,” Emenike told MTNFootball.com

“I should have been told right from South Africa that I will be out for this long, rather than coming to discover here at my club. It was not funny at all.”

“After doing well for Nigeria at Nations Cup, my club expected me to come back and perform better and not to return with injury when I am needed,” Emenike noted.
