Cycling Cycling: Irish Martyn Irvine breaks jinx after 117 years

The story of the 2013 Cycling Championship has become a tale since the first Irish man to win a world track medal was Harry Reynolds in 1897 where he took silver.

Irish Martyn Irvine has broken the jinx after a long wait for a medal qualifying as the second fastest in the competition a 4km race. He took 13th place at the London Olympics after finishing 7th in the multi-disciplined event in the 2012 World Championship.

However, after 117-years of wait Irvine’s gold medal on Thursday has brought joy to the Irish land believing had work had brought the Cyclist this far.
