Africa WTA/Florianopolis : Chanelle Scheepers lost the opening set

Scheepers lost the opening set of her match against Venezuelan qualifier Adriana Perez in the first round of the WTA Florianopolis earlier this week, but managed to dig herself out of a rut and clinch a 2-6 6-4 6-0 triumph.

She’ll be glad to have progressed to round two, as she had only won one of her five matches this season heading into this inaugural Brasil Tennis Cup event.Next up for the South African is a meeting with Babos, who has also struggled for results in 2013, putting together a 2-6 mark for the season ahead of this tournament. The Hungarian is another player who was tested in round one. She had to work through two tie-breakers, one of which she won, en route to her 7-6 6-7 6-2 success against Russia’s Valeria Savinykh.

Today’s meeting will be the first between Scheepers and Babos in WTA competition. It’s not easy to pick a favourite here as both players have lacked form ahead of this tie.
