Football England: Milwall fan to face ban over El Hadji Diouf racist abuse

A five-year ban from football matches and fined more than £500 for a Millwall fan who shouted racist abuse at a Leeds United player.

A 53-year-old man has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence after Millwall fans appeared to hurl racist abuse at a Leeds striker.

Gerrard Scanlon, 53, from Enfield, north London, is accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The delivery driver was released on police bail and is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on February 27.

This ban that was raised by Millwall has given Scanlon a life-time ban from the ground.

In a statement the club said: “The club had already decided to ban Scanlon for life from all matches at The Den.”

“We are pleased that the behaviour of this individual came to notice, and that the police and the courts have now taken action against him.”

“Millwall Football Club will continue to operate a zero tolerance policy to target and ban any fan guilty of displaying racist behaviour, and we look forward to developing even closer links with other agencies, including those in the media who share our determination to eradicate racism from our game.”
