As widely expected following his recent interviews revealing death threats on him, Cameroon captain Samuel Eto’o came to Yaoundé two days ago with usual personal belongings to honour coach Jean-Paul Akono’s invitation for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Togo.

The Anzhi Makhachkala striker brought his own drinking water, food, jerseys, training equipment and bodyguards, and has not been sharing anything with the rest of the group.

In one of the interviews, the four-time African footballer of the Year said he had proofs some officials were plotting to poison him through his jerseys or water.

Preparations are progressing as expected, according to the coach but reports in Yaoundé suggest that some players are not happy with Eto’o’s self-imposed isolation at a time when everybody is calling for reconciliation and solidarity to revive the country’s football.

Queens Park Rangers’ centre back Stephane Mbia has denounced Eto’o’s attitude according to Afrik Foot’s correspondent in Yaounde.
