athletics Oscar Pistorius can travel, his bail conditions lightened

Oscar Pistorius may smile. His lawyers did a good job. The South African athlete accused of killing his girlfriend the day of Valentine’s Day can travel again and leave the country. That is what is decided on Thursday a court in High Court of the North Gauteng in the city of Pretoria.

“I see no reason why Pistorius should not be allowed to travel abroad if invited to do so,” said Judge Bert Bam, who chaired the hearing. He must, however, provide a route to the National Prosecuting Authority if he decides to travel.

Released on bail last February against 85,000 euros, Pistorius was stripped of his passport and has no right to return to the scene of the tragedy. Bert Bam also ordered that the conditions for his presence in his home Silverwoods and his presentation to the Brooklyn police station twice a week are canceled.

“These two conditions should be ignored,” said the judge.

Oscar Pistorius will be judged from June 4, 2013 for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.
