Africa CHAN 2014: Nigeria withdraws, Côte d’Ivoire qualified!

Another blow of the financial crisis. Nigeria withdrew from the following stages of the qualifying for the African Nations Championship 2014 (competition reserved for locals), because of financial constraints. NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) said it has financial problems and cannot meet its commitments for this competition.

“The local Super Eagles will not play CHAN as we exited the playoffs because of lack of funds”, said Emeka Inyama, member of the Executive Committee of the NFF, adding “We have a lot of financial commitments and we must look at the events in order of importance.”

Nigeria had to face Ivory Coast in June. A situation that will suddenly allow the elephants to qualify for the next round of the competition.

The Nigerian federation is mowed so it has to also reduce the number of people in the national team staffs and reduce the win premium of the Super eagles which is $ 10,000.
