Kenya’s Francis Kiprop broke the record of the Marathon at the meeting in Madrid ran on Sunday. Crossing the finish after 2 hours 10 minutes and 36 seconds online, the Kenyan beat his compatriot Nickson Kurgat improving 22 seconds from the record set in 2011 by his compatriot Moses Kimeli Arusei (2:10 min and 58 sec).

The Ethiopian Herpasa Kitesa ends on the final podium.

In the women, the race has been handled by the Spanish Vanessa Veiga 2:36 ’42sec. She was ahead of the Ethiopian Desta Girma Tadesse, winner of the 2010 and 2011 editions.

The 26,000 initial participants honored with a minute of silence the victims of the Boston Marathon with the second presumed arrested seriously injured.
