Africa Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike undergoes successful knee surgery

Nigeria and Spartak Moscow striker Emmanuel Emenike has underwent a successful knee surgery on Thursday and will be out of action for six weeks.

Emmanuel Emenike, who was joint top scorer at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, will now miss Nigeria’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying games against Kenya and Namibia in June after undergoing the surgery.

Emenike’s Russian club Spartak Moscow said on their official website, “Emenike underwent a successful operation on his meniscus and will miss four to six weeks.”

The 25-year-old has also been ruled out of his club’s last four matches in the Russian Premier League and will return from Italy in the next few days to begin his rehabilitation in Moscow.

It means the top scorer at the African Cup of Nation is not totally ruled out from representing Nigeria at one of the showpiece events in the FIFA calender, the Confederations Cup, which takes place in Brazil from June 15-30.
