Africa Nigeria : John Ogu returns with a goal!

Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu has expressed happiness with his return to competitive football after a brief spell out due to an injury.

He told Complete Sports that he is gradually returning to full fitness after he scored his first goal of the season for Academica de Coimbra in their lone goal win over Victoria Setubal on Sunday.

The former Almeria player who came on as a second half substitute when he replaced Marcos Paulo scored in the 79th minute of the encounter told Complete Sports that the goal will boost his confidence as he nears full fitness :

“It was a good time to score my first goal for Academica. Coming back from injury lay-off to score a goal that lifted my team out of the murky waters of  relegation was highly fulfilling. I feel really great about this and I’m feeling better physically as my knee is a lot more stronger now, considering the fact that I only returned to training with my teammates last Wednesday.”

“I have spoken with coach Stephen Keshi, who has been full of support and has kept in touch, I’ll be ready for the games in June, and by God’s grace I hope to make the team for the Confederations Cup in Brazil,” Ogu told supersport.com.

Ogu who has been named in coach Stephen Keshi’s 30-man provisional squad list for the Eagles’ 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Kenya and Namibia in June believes he will be fully fit before he arrives at the team’s camp in Germany. “Surely, I’d be fully fit before the end of the season for the national team assignment. I am looking forward to giving my best to the team,” he concluded.

Ogu has so far played 19 games for Academica de Coimbra.
