Kevin Anderson stormed into the fourth round of Roland Garros on Friday, eliminating the Canadian Milos Raonic in two sets.
Anderson secured a hard fought 7-5, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Raonic, the world number 16, in the third round of the men’s simple.
It is only the second time that Anderson has progressed to this stage of a Grand Slam tournament. He also reached the fourth round of the Australian Open in January.
The SA men’s number one will face Spanish fourth seed David Ferrer, who reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros last year, for a place in the quarterfinals.
He becomes the first South African man since Wayne Ferreira in 1996 to reach the round of 16 at Roland Garros.
