athletics South Africa : Pistorius’uncle speaks to CNN

Once a gold medal winner at the Paralympics, murder accused Oscar Pistorius now shies away from the limelight.

After being released on a R1m bail, Pistorius has been living at his uncle Arnold’s house in Pretoria for the past three months.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Pistorius’s uncle said his nephew now has to live with the fact the he killed Reeva Steenkamp, his girlfriend.

According to his uncle, Pistorius has grown a beard, because he does not want to be recognised and has surrounded himself with photos of Steenkamp.

Pistorius is charged with the death of Steenkamp on 14 February. Pistorius had allegedly mistaken her for a burglar, and claims her death was a mistake.

“He’s got photos in his room, photos all over the place. He’s housebound, you know. He doesn’t go out in public places. What can you say if the person you love the most dies, and you were the instrument? How would you feel? It’s unthinkable,” he told CNN.

Pistorius’s agent has also revealed an intimate account of the fateful night Steenkamp was shot.

Pistorius is set to make a brief appearance Tuesday, 4 June, at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, which will hear a motion by state prosecutors to postpone the case for further investigations.
