Africa Elections disorders at FECAFOOT: FIFA suspends Cameroon on government interference

camerun-300x168As might be expected, FIFA “decided today, 4 July 2013, to temporarily suspend the Cameroonian Football (Fécafoot) with immediate effect on the grounds of governmental interference. Articles 13 and 17 of the FIFA Statutes impose on Member associations to manage their affairs independently and without the influence of others “.

The last elections which returned Iya Mohamed at the head of FECAFOOT led to unrest. A situation that has led to the Appeal Committee of the Federation to cancel the election. Since then, different camps clash. FIFA provides for the establishment of “a standardization committee which will be established under Article 7 para. 2 of the FIFA Statutes to revise the statutes of the Fécafoot and hold new elections by March 31, 2014 while managing current affairs “.

Cameroon is therefore suspended during that period from any“regional competition, continental or international, including club competitions, no more than in friendlies”.
