Africa World Cup 2014: FIFA suspends Togo!

After Ethiopia, it is the turn of Togo to be declared the loser against Cameroon for fielding an ineligible player on June 09 in the fourth round of qualifying for the World Cup Brazil 2014. The Togolese Football Federation is also fined of 6000 Swiss francs (about 4,900 Euros).

Ethiopia also having committed a fault of the same kind was sanctioned earlier this week.

Yet the Hawks had dominated in Lome the Indomitable Lions 2-0. For fielding Jacques Alaixys Romao, Togo lost points in favor of Cameroon which took the lead in Group I with 10 points ahead of Libya, the second with 9 points. Cameroon in turn was suspended by FIFA for political interference.

 

Togo had acknowledged the error and refused to appeal the proceedings by FIFA.
