The Kenyan Lilian Kasait Rengeruk won African first gold medal on the opening day at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Donestk Ukraine on Wednesday.
She carried the day in the girls 3000m covering the distance in 8:58.74 and being thus the world’s quickest athlete in the competition this year.

She was followed across the finish line by Ethiopians Berhan Demiesa and Slient Yismaw along with Ugandan Stella Chesang who all run life time bests
