Africa Violence at the stadium: Morocco hardens the tone

koora243violenceMorocco sent a strong message to troublemakers in sports competitions. The Court of Appeal of Casablanca released a verdict on violence recorded last April at the championship game that pitted Raja Casablanca to FAR Rabat. More than 130 defendants were sentenced to up to three years in prison. Only three people were acquitted.

The interior ministry denounced “acts of vandalism and destruction of public and private property (…) committed by individuals immediately after their arrival at the railway station in Casablanca from Rabat.”

Some public transport buses and several shops were looted in clashes.
