Here is an eye-opener on the main reason veiling the choice of Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup. In an interview with our colleagues from the German newspaper Die Zeit, an interview to be published tomorrow, Thursday, the FIFA President Sepp Blatter dropped. He clearly recognizes that the choice of countries was motivated and influenced by political and economic interests.

“There was direct political influence. Some European leaders have advised their members who could vote to vote for Qatar, because they were linked to the country by major economic interests”, he revealed. Blatter unpacks again a few days after acknowledging that the choice of Qatar was a mistake.

Political and economic interest, yes. But has this created a possible corruption in the awarding of this competition to Qatar? Sepp Blatter does not deny it completely. Better, he indirectly admits suspicion of corruption. That’s why he announced the formation of a new independent commission of inquiry that will go to work to clarify this point. “We have established a new ethics commission to any re-examine everything including allocation of the World to Qatar”,  he explained.

The head of the governing body of the world football is back on the problems related to the period of the World Cup. Although he calls for flexibilty, he will not take into account the arguments of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the Association of European football clubs and Bayern Munich boss. The latter has opted for the spring, that is to say, the month of April. A period entirely inappropriate for Sepp Blatter.
