Greuther Furth defender Baba Rahman has admitted he was not expecting a call-up for this month’s World Cup playoff first leg qualifier against Egypt. The left-back has been a regular fixture for his side in the Bundesliga II.
Rahman has been invited to compete for a starting role following the suspension of Harrison Afful. “Actually I wasn’t expecting this call up because I did not play a part in the Zambia game but I’m happy and honoured to be invited for this big game,” said Rahman.
“The coaches know what they want and the calibre of players they want to use for each game and as a young player I hope I get the best day on the pitch if I’m selected and hope all will go well for Ghana.
“I always dream of playing for my nation so is always a great pleasure for me anytime I get a call up.” The 19-year-old was on the bench in June’s double-header against Sudan and Lesotho.
