Europe Boxing: Groves’ trainer thinks the referee should be held to account

paddy-fitzpatrickAfrica Top Sports reported on Tuesday night’s highly anticipated clash between England’s boxing icons George Groves and Carl Froch in Manchester. At the end of a crazy match, Froch controversially stopped the unbeaten run of Groves.

But Groves’ trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick said the referee of the match should be held to account deeming the final decision as a bias one.
Paddy admits that Groves floored Froch more times and dominated the contest until the WBA and IBF champion hurt the challenger with a determined assault in the ninth.
He thinks the game shouldn’t be over at that very time expecting that Groves could recover as he had been dominating the clash.
“The referee has interfered with two men earning their living,”
he told Sky Sports. “I haven’t seen the replay so I’ll save my definitive answer until then, but on the night I thought (the stoppage was premature) especially because of the reason he gave me.

“I made it known beforehand my concerns about it. George’s lawyer will tell you that. What usually happens is that it’s a talking point on ringside, and we move on until it happens to the next guy.”
“He said George was hurt – this is two men hitting each other. If he stopped it because he got hurt why didn’t he stop it the seven or eight times Carl got hurt?
“We are in professional boxing so nobody amateur should be connected to it”
