Top-ranked New Zealander Marina Erakovic has asked for an appearance fee to participate at the forthcoming ASB Classic Tennis Tournament to be contested in Auckland from 30th December, 2013 to 4th January, 2014.

 

Marina Erakovic – a player, who has never been a part of the top-20 players in the world, surprised everyone by showing her desire to get some sort of appearance fee for her participation at her home event – the ASB Classic. However, the organizers of the competition didn’t give heed to her demands. The tournament director, Karl Budge said:

“She’s got every right to ask and if I was her agent I would be asking that question as well. We weren’t in the position to be able to offer her an upfront fee. We’ve put a commercial package to her and certainly tried to support her as much as we can and I think she’s okay with that.”
