Football CHAN 2014: South African clubs refuse to release their players for selection

b19e103cad6caa67741e1ddb79a5c84dThe coach of the South African football team is in hot water. No one will want to be at his place right now. And for good reason, while the African Nations Championship will begin on January 11 in the country of Nelson Mandela, Gordon Igesund is facing a serious problem.

In fact , many clubs like Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town still refuse to release the players the national manager has convened for this competition. Since the South African championship will not stop for the 2014 CHAN, these clubs are afraid of being relegated during the absence of their key players.

Kaizer Chiefs will lose six major players namely Itemeleng Khune, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Bernard Parker, Tsepo Masilela , Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Tefo Mashamaite all summoned by the coach. They will not even be able to play with their clubs the preliminary phases of the CAF Champions League.

What will the South African Federation do to solve this problem? That’s the big question. Stop the championship and continue after CHAN?
