Benin Yaya, Drogba, Mikel: the African Ballon d’Or to be known today!

yayadrogbmikel-300x169This is the day for CAF Awards. A host of stars will be held tonight in Lagos, Nigeria for the 22th edition of the African football awards. In the menu, the election of the “Best African Player of the Year,” a much anticipated prize. This will be a final decision between Ivorians Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel of Nigeria .

A choice that looks already difficult as the three men were amazing last year. If Yaya Touré, double African reigning Ballon d’Or seems to be archi favorite for another coronation, he is not immune to surprise by the Chelsea midfielder, African champion and winner of the Europa League last year.

Stephen Keshi to be honored?

The third contender is none other than Didier Drogba. Having lready won the trophy twice (2006 and 2009), Galatasaray striker is a surprise in this trio of finalists. Besides the African Ballon d’Or will be known the “Best player based on the continent”. Nominees for this category are Egyptians Ahmed Fathi and Mohamed Aboutrika and Sunday Mba of Nigeria.

Nigeria should walk away with the award of best coach of the year to Coach Stephen Keshi, as well as that of the best national team of the year for their U17 world champions.
