The elimination of Bafana Bafana in the African Nations Championship 2014 is not being easily digested by South African football leaders. After the huge anger stung by Fikile Mbalula, the Minister of Sports, it may well be that the SAFA ( South African Football Association) decides the fate of their manager. According to reports, Gordon Igesund could be fired.
Danny Jordaan, the president of SAFA, has not enjoyed the spectacle offered by the Bafana Bafana during the CHAN and decided to change things relating to the team’s failure. After considering a name and color change to the national team, former President of the Organizing Committee of the 2010 World Cup suggested that the technical team boss might have played his last game on Sunday during the 1-3 defeat against Nigeria.
“We face three challenges. Number one, a new technical sponsor. Two , a new name on the shirt, and three, we must consider the preparations, philosophy and the technical staff of the team. We need to rethink how we’ll put the team on the ground,” said Mr Jordaan.
Gordon Igesund is the coach of South Africa since 2012.
