615x340_can2013_maroc_supporters_01Big twist at the last day of group matches in Group B of the African Nations Championship. Respectively ranked 2nd and 3rd before that day, it is Morocco and Zimbabwe who have finally managed to get their game and succeed in their advance to the quarterfinals.

The Atlas Lions have pulled all the stops in this match against Uganda, leader of the group. Abdessamad Rafik opened the scoring in the 29th minute and puts Morocco in front at the break. But after the break, Yunus Sentamu, one of the best players of the tournament so far equalized. Morocco does not give up and resumes again the lead by Mouhssine Iajour. This time, the Cranes could no longer restore parity until Abdelkabir El Wadi adds a third in the stoppage time. Final score 3-1.

A single goal in pools to pass!

In the other group match, Burkina Faso was again disappointed. Stallions needed a win to hope for something. But the men of Brama Traore bowed to Zimbabwe (0-1) again. Masimba Mambare scored the only goal of the match. This is also the only achievement of the Warriors since the beginning of the tournament.

We will go as far as to the 2009 edition to see a team qualify for the quarterfinals with only one goal scored in the pool.

Group B Ranking

Morocco 5 pts (+2), Zimbabwe 5 (1), Uganda 4 (-1), Burkina Faso 1 (-2).
