Shola Ameobi will leave Newcastle at end of the season. The Nigerian striker has confirmed that he will not extend his contract which will come to an end in June.

“As I always say, I never assumed to play for Newcastle. Whenever I go on the field with this shirt, I take great pleasure. When it expires, it will be a sad moment but my goal is to help this team until the end,” said he explained to British newspaper Shields Gazette.

Trained by the Magpies, Ameobi has never really established himself as an indisputable holder. In 371 games played in all competitions with Newcastle, he scored 77 goals.
