It went very fast Sunday on the 42 195 km track of Tokyo. The female and male marathon records of the Japanese capital were erased from tablets respectively by Tirfi Tsegaye and Dickson Chumba.
In men, Dickson Chumba improves over a minute chrono race. The Kenyan won the competition in 2h 05’42 ”, making obsolete the reference time established in the marathon last year by his compatriot Dennis Kimetto (2h 06’50 ”).
Chumba has, at the same time, improved his personal best to 04 seconds on 42km195 made in Eindhonven. Ethiopian Tadese Tola, second in 15 seconds, prevents Kenyan athletes to monopolize the top five of the marathon.
For ladies, Tirfi Tsegaye Beyene dominates the competition in 2h 22’23 ‘‘. The previous mark was 2h 25: 128. Like last year, the Ethiopian achieve a double in the women’s race with second place occupied by Birhane Dibaba (2h 22’30 ”). Kenya’s Lucy Kabuu ranks third.
